Presentation of the Programme

BioDiversa (or BioDiversa+) is a new co-funded European biodiversity partnership supporting state-of-the art research on biodiversity and its resulting impacts on both policy and society. Created by both BiodivERsA and the EC (DG Environment alongside DG Research & Innovation), the partnership was officially launched in October 2021. 

The goal of the partnership is to connect science, policy, and practice to foster positive transformative change. Current, there are 74 research programmes within the partnership, stemming from funders and environmental policy stakeholders from 36 countries from the EU and beyond, working on 5 main objectives:

  1. Planning and supporting both innovation and research on biodiversity through the means of a common strategy, annual research project calls, and capacity building exercises;
  2. Creating a network of harmonised schemes with the goal of improving biodiversity and ecosystem services monitoring throughout Europe;
  3. Contributing to the knowledge and know-how of putting nature-based solutions into place, as well as increase the value of biodiversity in the private sector;
  4. Ensuring efficient, scientifically accurate support for policy-making and decision-making processes and implementation across Europe;
  5. Strengthening the impact and relevance that transdisciplinary pan-European research has on biodiversity in a European and global context. 


Other Projects in the Same Programme

The MICROSERVICES project is an answer to the BioDiversa joining COFUND call on “Biodiversity and Climate Change” for 2019-2020, which as a whole,  covers four non-exclusive themes:

  • The consequences of climate change on biodiversity and nature’s contribution to people
  • Climate-biodiversity feedback processes
  • Potential of nature-based solutions for mitigating and adapting to climate change
  • Synergies and tradeoffs between policies on biodiversity, climate and other relevant sectors, and the role of agents of change.
